The Transportation Division consists of one sergeant, two Corporals, four deputies, and fifteen transportation officers. Transportation officers are trained in specific shooting and handcuffing techniques as well as defensive tactics and driving skills. These special skills help in the daily execution of their duties.
The Transportation Division is responsible for transporting inmates to and from various courts, other county jails, hospitals, doctor's offices, and other agencies throughout the state of South Carolina. They transport inmates to various facilities and pick up inmates on bench warrants within the state. They also deliver paperwork to local agencies and officials within Horry County.
Transportation officers are tested annually to maintain their positions within the Transportation Division. The testing entails weapons proficiency, driving course and negotiation of an obstacle course. Officers desiring a transfer to the Transportation Division must pass the same qualification tests as well as pass an oral interview board.
